Amsteldok
Amsteldok, the WPP headquarters in Amsterdam, brings together 19 WPP agencies in a revitalised space. Formerly known as the Rivierstaete building, it has been transformed into a modern working environment spanning 19,000m2. When completed in 1973, it held the title of Europe's largest office building.
In collaboration with BDG, a British architecture firm, and VBAT, a Dutch design studio, we curated customized artworks for each operating company (opco) and created a cohesive wayfinding system for shared spaces and main thoroughfares. This system utilises scale, form, and colour to enhance the spatial experience for staff and inspire visitors as they navigate the vibrant and diverse areas of the building.
At the core of the wayfinding system is a strong numerical language influenced by 20th-century Dutch design and building names. These numbers are prominently featured at various touchpoints, creating bold and artistic moments that seamlessly integrate with the architecture. In the entrance foyer, we added a dynamic element with a sculpture-like totem that can be manipulated by passers-by, creating a sense of human connection.
The wayfinding scheme extends beyond traditional signage to include bespoke furniture, street signage, and colour accents on each level, ensuring a unified and engaging experience throughout the building.
