Heal's Building
Crafting an authentic sense of place
The Heal’s loading bay has always been a portal of exchange - once a place of crafted furniture exports, today, a space for encouraging connections and exchanging ideas. 'Crafting the work of tomorrow' echoed the essence of the building, and soon formed the foundational approach that drove General Projects regeneration of the Grade II listed building. This included the old loading bay café, reception, and workspaces.
The Heritage of the space isn’t hidden but celebrated, capturing its rich craft heritage through preserved architectural detailing, materiality choices, and sympathetic finishing.
My approach to the signage and wayfinding of the building was no different, utilising craft to inform the materiality and application at every touchpoint. Not only to honour traditional methods, but also to weave in a layer of storytelling, encourage conversation, and cultivate an authentic sense of place.
