Berlin
Inspired by the iconic U-Bahn subway tiles and the rich heritage of German design, Berlin by Chris Page transforms traditional materials into a bold celebration of form, color, and legacy. Drawing from the Bauhaus movement—specifically its grid systems and Anni Albers' striking textiles—this artwork reimagines the interplay of structure and abstraction.
Using coloured tiles arranged in bold, geometric compositions, the piece spells out "Berlin," a word that emerges subtly when viewed from afar but dissolves into dynamic patterns up close. This duality invites discovery, reflecting the layered character of the city itself. Measuring around 7m x 3.5 m and crafted with tiles, grout, and metal, Berlin captures the power of scale, the precision of design, and the enduring influence of Germany’s creative lineage and the future of Potsdamer Platz.
